Lifelong Republican and Former Member of the New York State Senate John R. Dunne Endorses Antonio Delgado for Congress

KINGSTON – Today, John R. Dunne, a resident of Columbia County, lifelong Republican and former member of the New York State Senate where he served as a member of the Majority for more than two decades, endorsed Antonio Delgado for Congress in New York’s 19th Congressional District.

Dunne has served in a variety of federal, state and local government positions for more than thirty years.

“I am proud to endorse Antonio Delgado for Congress here in NY-19,” said Dunne. “Our district needs a representative who will lead with integrity, listen to the concerns of the people, and put their needs before those of big corporations or special interests. Antonio understands the need to find common ground with people and does that by engaging in civil, face-to-face conversations all across upstate New York. He is committed to uniting people on our shared values at a time when so much of our politics and politicians are focused on division. He will work for, represent and provide a voice for everyone in our district and I look forward to supporting him in those efforts.”

“I am honored to have the endorsement of former Assistant Attorney General John Dunne, a steadfast advocate for civil rights and a leader in our region,” said Delgado. “His three decades in local, state and federal government are a testament to his commitment to public service. He also truly understands the power of listening and how important it is to get out and hear from the people you’ve been elected to represent. I look forward to continuing our work together and am very grateful for his endorsement.”

During 24 years as a state senator, Dunne served at various times as Deputy Majority Leader and chair of the judiciary, environmental protection, insurance and prisons committees. From 1990 until 1993, an appointee of President George H. W. Bush, Dunne served as Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights at the U.S. Department of Justice. Upon his return to Albany, Mr. Dunne was appointed to and chaired the Board of Directors of the New York State Capital Defender Office. Dunne has also been president of the Nassau County Bar Association and the Nassau County Legal Aid Society. In 2006, Mr. Dunne received the New York State Bar Association’s Gold Medal for a career of public service and also received the State University of New York School of Criminal Justice Medal for distinguished service. In 2007 he received the Correctional Association of New York’s award for Lifetime Achievement in Public Service.
