Labor Rallies Around Delgado
More than 20 local, state and national labor organizations have endorsed Antonio Delgado as their choice for Congress in New York’s 19th congressional district. Supporting working people of upstate New York is at the heart of Delgado’s campaign.
While the U.S. economy has doubled in size over the last 40 years, wages have remained stagnant, income inequality has grown and good-paying jobs have been disappearing across upstate New York. From right to work laws up to the recent Janus decision, there has been a sustained effort to weaken the right of labor to collectively bargain. For too long our elected officials have failed to protect the rights of workers.
Antonio has met with union members and leaders all across this district, including hearing from healthcare workers in a Columbia County nursing home while they negotiated for fair pay and benefits, attending a member meeting with CSEA in Sullivan County and touring an IBEW training center to learn more about apprenticeship programs. Delgado is committed to protecting the rights of working people and standing up for and strengthening unions.
“The future of healthcare and of workers rights is at stake, and that’s why CSEA is proud to join with unions across the state to endorse Antonio Delgado to represent New York’s 19th Congressional District,” said Billy Riccaldo, CSEA Southern Region President. “He understands how hard our workers fight to be heard, to bargain, to get fair benefits, and still they are faced with stagnating wages and widening income inequality. We know that when in Congress, Antonio will fight for the hard working people of upstate New York.”
“We proudly support candidates who are committed to working hard on the issues important to working people,” said Ron Diaz, President of the Hudson Valley Area Labor Federation AFL-CIO. “Antonio Delgado has proven to be a fighter for middle and working class folks. He has been an outspoken advocate for universal access to quality, affordable healthcare for people in his district and will bring that hard work and determination to Washington. He is committed to representing the interests and concerns of the people of his district and won’t put big corporations ahead of them. We look forward to working together and supporting his campaign.”
“There is so much at stake in this November’s elections,” said Tara L. Martin, State Political Director of New York State Nurses Association (NYSNA). “The future of healthcare and taxes and even the middle class hangs in the balance and that’s why NYSNA is proud to endorse Antonio Delgado for Congress in the 19th district, representing parts of the Hudson Valley and Catskill region.”
“Antonio knows what it means to roll up his sleeves and put in the hard work,“ said Gabrielle Seay, Political Director for 1199SEIU, United Healthcare Workers East. “His focus on healthcare and attention to the needs of healthcare workers, their families, and their communities demonstrates the kind of leadership we need in upstate New York. We know he will be a powerful advocate for workers, and continue to stand up for the rights of the working families in our region and not for special interests or big corporations. We are very pleased to endorse Antonio Delgado for Congress in NY-19.”
“Together, these unions represent over two million civil servants, steelworkers, teachers, and healthcare providers that keep our economy running every day. I am honored to have their support,” said Antonio Delgado. “People here are working harder than ever, productivity is increasing but wages have remained stagnant for decades as workers’ rights have been under attack. I will fight for better wages, work to undo the harmful right to work laws, protect access to quality and affordable healthcare as well as strengthen protections for exercising the right to collectively bargain. We need fresh voices in Washington willing to bring back government for the people, by the people.”
